Coaching Explanation
How Do I Know if Life Coaching Is For Me?
Do any of the following questions ring true for you:
- Are you seeking new options for life? career?
- Do you want more out of your job? relationships?
- Have you desired a more meaningful purpose to you life?
- Would you like to have more energy for your life?
- Is your organization or company “stuck” in ineffective methods?
These commons phrases are often indicators that Life Coaching may be the right method of change for you.
How Does Life Coaching Work? Every positive change in life begins with the awareness that something is missing or incomplete. Or, perhaps the awareness is there but the helping techniques tried just haven’t had a lasting effect. Either way, you know you are ready for change in your life. After a brief discussion about your situation, you and the Coach will determine if Life Coaching is the best option. You both commit to working for a number of sessions (normally once a week for two or three months). The sessions take place either in person or on the telephone. During these 45-60 minute sessions the Coach listens carefully, asks clarifying questions, reflects back what is heard and explores positive tools for desired change. During the week, in between sessions, you will have the option to explore what has been discussed in the session. This “homework” helps to reinforce the ideas brought up in Life Coaching sessions.
Life Coaching is NOT: clinical therapy, psychiatric counseling or medical advisement. It does not dwell on circumstances of the Client’s past. It does not teach specific health, nutrition or exercise regimens. If the need for any of these arises, the Coach may suggest appropriate professional assistance.

STILL NOT SURE WHAT LIFE COACHING IS? It may help by looking at the Distinction between a Therapist, a Consultant and a Coach. Let’s imagine that you want to learn to ride a bike and you’re not sure who to turn for help.
- A therapist will help you understand and overcome your fear of bike-riding.
- A consultant will tell you all about bikes and give you all the information you need to make a decision on which bike and how to ride it.
*A lifecoach will help you:
- Get on the bike
- Steady the bike as you start cycling
- Run alongside you until you’re riding confidently on your own
